A very old theme. Beyond trends and beliefs and fashions: something is really changing now.
We live in a VUCA world (Vague, Uncertain, Chaotic and Ambiguous). That has some serious implications. One of them is that no one can make it through his whole career with the skills and knowledge he acquired in his youth. So the mean objective of an manager will be to keep his workers sharp, agile, ready.
Development of his co-workers will be his first concern. And therefore the manager needs an adapted set of skills, attitudes and working values to do so.
